Retention Manager
Responsible for making sure a player doesn't leave after the first deposit: you build communication flows, bonus mechanics and lifecycle segments.
Who is this and what does he do?
Acquiring a player costs €50–300, so the entire casino economy rests on how long they stay after registration. The Retention Manager works with segments (new, active, dormant, churned) and runs a dedicated mechanic for each: welcome flows, missions, tournaments, cashback, reactivation offers. Unlike a VIP Manager, you don't talk to players one-to-one — you design the system that does it automatically, then work out whether the bonus budget paid for itself.

How to break into the profession
People come in from CRM marketing, the VIP team or analytics. A good entry point is junior CRM executive: build campaigns, run the promo calendar, and a year later take ownership of a segment.
Working hours: Standard 5/2, with peaks ahead of major promos and tournaments. Occasional weekend on-call when a big campaign is live.
Market Demand: Consistently high demand: every operator hits a retention wall soon after launch. Employers value candidates who can show, in numbers, how their campaigns moved NGR.

FAQ
How does a Retention Manager differ from a CRM Manager?
In practice the roles often overlap. Where they are split, CRM owns the channels and the technical delivery of communications, while retention owns segment economics and bonus mechanics.
Do I need SQL?
Not for junior roles, but almost always from mid-level up: being able to pull a segment and check a campaign's results without waiting for an analyst makes you several times faster.
