Accountant (iGaming) — Keeps the books for a gambling group's entities in Malta, Cyprus, Curaçao and Europe: source documents, taxes, reconciliations and IFRS reporting.

What the role involves

A gambling group rarely lives in a single entity: the licence sits in Malta or Curaçao, development and marketing in Cyprus, there's an IP company for the IP Box regime and contractors in Georgia. The accountant keeps the books for several companies at once, reconciles balances across bank accounts, PSPs and crypto wallets, runs intra-group settlements and books revenue from game providers and payment providers. On top of that come tax returns, the regulator's gaming tax, IFRS audits and questions from banks that look at iGaming with suspicion. Senior and chief accountants own consolidation and filing deadlines; juniors handle source documents, invoices and payroll.

Responsibilities

  • Full-cycle bookkeeping for several entities: source documents, journal entries, month-end close
  • Reconciliations with banks, PSPs, game providers, affiliates and crypto wallets
  • Financial statements under IFRS and local standards
  • Cyprus and Malta tax reporting: VAT, corporate tax, gaming tax
  • Payroll and social contributions
  • Preparing documents for auditors, banks and the regulator
  • Intra-group settlements and support with consolidation

How performance is measured

  • Month-end close deadlines
  • Reports and taxes filed with no penalties

How to break into the profession

From Big Four or local audit firms, from accounting at IT and fintech companies, or from corporate service providers in Cyprus and Malta. ACCA helps you grow to senior and chief accountant.

Working hours: Mon–Fri, with peak weeks at month-end close and during audits. In Cyprus and Malta hybrid 3/2 is common; remote roles are more often management accounting and source documents.

Market demand: Hiring comes from operators and providers with offices in Malta and Cyprus, corporate service providers working for gambling groups, and holdings with payroll centres in the Baltics. The most sought after are accountants with Cyprus tax and IFRS experience.
