System Administrator in iGaming — Keeps the team's servers, domains, access rights and workstations running so that sites and services don't go down.

What the role involves

In iGaming a sysadmin has more on their plate than at an ordinary company: dozens of domains and mirrors that get blocked by geo, servers for landing pages and trackers, VPNs and proxies for a remote team, corporate Jira and Google Workspace, access for every new joiner. In a small team or arbitrage company this is often one person who owns the whole technical side. At studios and operators the role splits into user support and Linux infrastructure administration with monitoring and 24/7 on-call.

Responsibilities

  • Administer Linux servers, set up Nginx, Docker and backups
  • Manage domains, DNS, SSL certificates and mirrors
  • Grant and revoke access, onboard and offboard staff
  • Support corporate services: Google Workspace, Jira, Confluence, VPN
  • Set up monitoring and alerts in Slack or Telegram
  • Respond to incidents and ensure basic infrastructure security

How performance is measured

  • Site and service uptimeshare of time the service ran without incidents
  • Incident response and resolution time
  • Speed of granting access and closing requests
  • No leaks or lost access

Professional skills

  • Linux, bash, networking (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN)
  • Nginx, Docker, basic CI/CD
  • Monitoring: Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix
  • Ansible for automating routine work
  • Cloudflare and working with domain registrars

Soft skills

  • Owning the whole technical side without reminders
  • Calm during outages
  • Explaining to non-technical staff what to do

Tools

Linux, Nginx, DockerCloudflare, NamecheapPrometheus, Grafana, ZabbixGoogle Workspace, Jira, ConfluenceAnsible

Languages: For Russian-speaking teams, Russian and technical English are enough. International operators and studios need English B1–B2.

How to break into the profession

From IT support and helpdesk, or sysadmin work at ordinary companies. Experience with domains, Cloudflare and a platform such as SOFTSWISS is a plus, not a requirement.

Working hours: Mon–Fri, mostly remote. Many teams have on-call or require you to be reachable during outages.

Market demand: Sysadmins are sought by arbitrage and affiliate companies that need one person for all their infrastructure, and by game providers and operators with offices and large headcount. Large companies more often advertise IT Support and Helpdesk roles.
