Malta has long been one of Europe's main gambling industry hubs. Many operators serving EU markets are licensed and headquartered here, and a whole ecosystem has grown around them: providers, payment firms, affiliates, lawyers and recruiters.

Well-known employers include Betsson Group, Betano (Kaizen Gaming), ComeOn Group, Tipico and Evolution. Some listings come from agencies, so ask who the actual employer is.

The signature Malta role is native-speaking player support: Swedish, Finnish, Norwegian, German and more. Operators hire native speakers for specific markets, and for many people this is their first job in the industry.

Compliance is the island's other strength, together with AML, legal and finance. Licensed entities sit here, so compliance officers, certification and regulatory reporting specialists, and in-house lawyers are in steady demand.

There is plenty of technology hiring as well: Go and Java developers, DevOps, database engineers, information security analysts and data specialists. Add product, CRM, trading and account management to the list.

Payments and fraud are another steady stream: payment provider specialists, risk analysts, KYC and customer due diligence officers. Experience in banking or fintech counts here almost as much as gambling experience.

Newcomers usually get in through native-language support, KYC or a compliance assistant role. Once inside, moves into CRM, VIP, fraud and account management become realistic.

The main regulator is the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA). Many licensed companies keep key functions on the island, which is why compliance, risk and part of senior management work from local offices.

For employees, that means regular AML and responsible gambling training, background checks at hiring and, for key positions, approval of the candidate by the regulator. Ask about this in interviews if you are going for a leadership role.

Almost all Malta listings are office-based or hybrid. Employers are used to hiring from abroad and often help with relocation: flights, temporary housing, paperwork. Agree on the package before you accept an offer.

EU citizens have the simplest path. Candidates from outside the EU need a work permit, usually arranged by the employer, so ask early whether the company is ready to handle it.

English is the working language of Maltese offices. Maltese is not required for most roles, while a second European language widens your options considerably.
