Briefly: The relocation package in iGaming is written for a single person - a ticket, a month of housing, help with documents. It doesn’t scale for a family of four on its own: the budget grows 1.8–2.2 times, the main blow comes from rent and school, and the most expensive surprise is a spouse who is legally unable to work for six months. All this is discussed before the offer is signed, then there is no leverage.
Our geo-analysis - Malta, Cyprus, Warsaw - written about a man with one suitcase. But a significant part of the candidates for middle and senior positions are traveling with four people, and they have different mathematics: instead of “do I have enough left to live”, the question sounds like “is there enough for four if my wife hasn’t worked for a year.” Let's break it down point by point.
What is included in the relocation package and what is per family?
A typical middle package in the industry looks the same for most operators: flight, 2–4 weeks of temporary housing, help with a work permit and a bonus for settling in €1000–3000. All this is calculated per person by default. For a family, each line is extended separately - and almost always at the request of the candidate, and not at the initiative of HR.
- Flight. Four tickets instead of one plus luggage is a reasonable request and is rarely refused. Ask immediately, after signing it is no longer “provided for in the budget.”
- Temporary housing. A studio for a month for one and a two-room apartment for four are different money. It is realistic to agree on 3-4 weeks of housing for a family, but the wording in the offer should be “accommodation for the employee and family”, otherwise there will be a studio in place.
- Documents. The company lawyer supervises the main employee. Packages for a spouse and children are often issued by the same company, but the invoice is issued to the candidate - this is a separate question for HR.
- School and kindergarten. Tuition reimbursement is rare in iGaming, but assistance with finding a place and a letter of employment confirmation for a school is common and saves weeks.
- Insurance. Corporate health insurance almost always covers the employee. Family - at a separate rate, and it is paid.
Visa and right to work for a spouse
The most underrated relocation point. The difference between “spouse goes to work in a month” and “in a year” is €15,000–30,000 of family income, and the rules in the three main industry hubs are markedly different.
| Country | Family status | The right to work for a spouse |
|---|---|---|
| Malta | on reunification | permission is issued in a separate application; the speed depends on the hiring scheme - according to the usual Single Permit, the wait is longer; under the accelerated scheme for key specialists, the family applies together with the employee |
| Cyprus | directly with the employee | for companies with foreign interest status, with a salary of €2,500 gross or more, the spouse receives direct access to the labor market - the most family-friendly scheme of the three |
| Poland | on reunification | A residence permit for a family member gives the right to work without a separate permit; EU citizens and Blue Card holders complete the journey noticeably faster |
Practical conclusion: if the spouse plans to work, Cyprus, all other things being equal, wins months over Malta. But the rules change frequently, so the only working tactic is to ask HR for a written answer to the question “under what specific scheme am I being hired and what does this mean for my spouse’s documents?” A good employer responds with the name of the scheme and terms, a weak one - in general words.
Kindergartens: queues, prices, what's free
Children before school are the most volatile item in the budget, because it is not the country that decides, but the region and the month of application.
- Malta. For working parents, there is a state scheme for free childcare for children under three years of age: while both parents work or study, the hours at an accredited center are covered by the state. This greatly changes the situation - but only if the spouse is also employed. Private kindergarten outside the scheme - approximately €400–600 per month.
- Cyprus. There is no free mass option for children, a private kindergarten in Limassol costs €300–500 per month, there are many Russian-speaking and English-speaking groups in the city due to the large iGaming and IT diaspora. There are not enough places in popular kindergartens; you have to register from abroad.
- Warsaw. A municipal kindergarten costs symbolic money: several hours a day are free, then there is an hourly supplement plus meals - the total is less than €100 per month. The problem is not the price, but the queue: enrollment starts in the spring for the school year, and those who arrive in October are most often left with a private kindergarten for €350–600.
Schools: public, private, Russian-language
The main issue here is not money, but the language of instruction - it determines how quickly the child will enter the classroom.
| Location | Public school | Private / international |
|---|---|---|
| Malta | free | studying in English is the main advantage for moving; private and church schools €400–900/month per child |
| Cyprus | free | teaching is in Greek, so expats en masse go to private English schools in Limassol: €400–800/month; There are also Russian-language private schools |
| Warsaw | free | training in Polish, for newcomers there are preparatory classes and additional language lessons; private or international school €300–600/month |
Malta is objectively simpler for a family with school-age children: the public school is free and speaks English, which means you don’t have to choose between “free” and “comfortable”. In Cyprus and Poland, the choice is real: a public school in a foreign language gives quick integration and a zero check, a private one - soft entry and minus €5000-8000 per year per child from the family budget.
Medical insurance for children
In Malta and Cyprus, access to public healthcare is provided by social contributions from the salary: in Cyprus this is GHS, to which the employee pays about 2.65% of income. Family members with a legal residence permit are connected to the system, but before receiving the status they need private insurance - this is also asked when submitting documents. A private policy in Malta costs €50–120 per month per adult, a family policy usually costs €150–250. In Warsaw, a private network like Luxmed or Medicover costs €30–50 per person, and this is the most popular option because it’s cheaper than the hassle of waiting in line at public clinics. Check with HR about one thing: does the corporate policy cover a family and from what day - sometimes a family is added only after a trial period.
Budget for a family of four vs. budget for a single person
Let's put everything together. Below is a comfortable, not survival budget: rent, groceries, transportation, kindergarten or school, insurance and a little for living.
| Location | Single, €/month | Family 2+2, €/month | Main growth driver |
|---|---|---|---|
| Malta (Sliema) | 2600–3100 | 4200–5400 | three ruble instead of one-room apartment: €1900–2600 versus €1100–1600 |
| Cyprus (Limassol) | 2200–2800 | 3900–5000 | rent €1600–2200 plus private school for two children |
| Warsaw | 1300–1600 | 2500–3300 | three ruble €1200–1600, kindergarten or private school |
Now apply this to salaries. MiddleCRM manager in Malta or Cyprus receives €3200–4400 net, middle-backend developer — €4000–5500, middle-support agent — €2100–2800. The conclusion is harsh, but honest: in support, seven out of four in Malta cannot be supported on income alone, in CRM - without a private school, in development - it’s normal. In Warsaw, the bar is lower: the same middle developer with €3000–4300 covers the family budget with a margin. Full salary ranges for 35 roles - in directory of professions.
And the main amendment: the first three months are more expensive than the subsequent ones. Deposit for an apartment (usually 1-2 rentals), furniture, equipment, documents for four, school fees - a typical family start-up in Malta or Cyprus costs €5,000-8,000 on top of the usual month. The relocation bonus of €1000–3000 partially covers it, the rest must be in the account before the move.
Checklist of HR questions before signing an offer
- Do the flight, temporary housing and relocation bonus apply to the spouse and children? What exactly are the lines in the offer?
- Who pays for the visa and document fees per family and who manages these applications?
- Under what scheme am I hired and when will my spouse be legally able to work?
- Does corporate health insurance cover a family, from what day and at whose expense?
- Does the company help with finding a school and kindergarten and provide a letter of employment for applications?
- What happens to the family’s residence permit if I quit or get laid off in six months?
The last question is asked least often, but it is the most important: your family status is tied to your employment contract, and the amount of time you have to find a new job varies in different countries. For open positions with the specified relocation, see the section jobs.
Frequently asked questions
What is included in the relocation package for a family?
The standard middle package includes flights, 2–4 weeks of temporary housing, assistance with a work permit and a bonus for settling in €1000–3000. It does not automatically extend to the family: tickets for the wife and children, weeks in temporary housing for four, payment for a lawyer on documents for the family and medical insurance for everyone must be negotiated separately and recorded in the offer in lines, and not in the words of the recruiter.
Will my spouse be able to work after moving?
It depends on the hiring pattern. In Cyprus, for companies with foreign interest status, with an employee salary of €2,500 gross per month, the spouse receives direct access to the labor market. In Poland, a family member who has received a residence permit by reunification works without a separate permit. In Malta, a spouse's permit is issued separately, and the speed depends on which scheme the main employee arrived under - the usual Single Permit or the accelerated one for key specialists.
How much do schools and kindergartens cost in Malta, Cyprus and Warsaw?
Public schools are free in all three countries. Private and international schools in Malta and Cyprus cost approximately €400–900 per month per child, in Warsaw – €300–600. Kindergarten: in Malta, for working parents there is a free childcare scheme for children under three years of age; in Warsaw, a municipal kindergarten costs symbolic money plus food; a private kindergarten costs €350–600; in Cyprus, a private kindergarten costs €300–500 per month.
How much does it cost for a family of four versus a single person?
The multiplier is approximately 1.8–2.2 to a single person’s budget, and the main increase comes not from food, but from housing and education. In Limassol, €2,200–2,800 per month is enough for a single person, and €3,900–5,000 for a family of four. In Malta, a single person with rent in Sliema spends €2600–3100, a family – €4200–5400. In Warsaw, a single person costs €1,300–1,600 with rent, a family costs €2,500–3,300.
What should you ask HR before signing an offer if you are moving with your family?
Six questions: does the relocation bonus and temporary housing apply to all family members, who pays for the documents of the spouse and children, does corporate insurance cover the family and from what day, does the company help with finding a school and kindergarten, when will the spouse be legally able to work, and what will happen to the family’s residence permit if the employee leaves the company after six months.
