Payments Architect

BettingJobs is recruiting an experienced Payments Architect to lead the technical design, architecture and engineering strategy for a crypto and fiat payments platform at an ambitious, fast-growing business investing heavily in secure, scalable payment infrastructure. This is a genuine leadership opportunity to own the architectural roadmap and shape how the platform processes payments across both crypto and fiat rails.
You'll define the technical direction for a highly available, secure and resilient payment platform, leading dedicated backend (Java) and frontend (React) engineering squads end-to-end. It's a role suited to a hands-on technical leader who can balance architecture, delivery and people management, and who wants genuine influence over how a modern payments function is built and scaled.

Responsibilities:

• Own the technical roadmap and engineering delivery for crypto and fiat payment systems, spanning backend and frontend
• Lead and grow backend and frontend engineering squads, including 1:1s and technical capability building
• Define architecture for high-availability, secure and scalable payment processing across crypto and fiat rails
• Oversee integration with payment gateways, PSPs, banking partners and blockchain networks
• Ensure systems meet security, fraud-prevention and reliability standards
• Drive sprint planning, release management and CI/CD practices across payment squads
• Partner with Product, Compliance and other engineering leads on business and regulatory alignment

Requirements:

• 8+ years' software engineering experience, including 3+ years in an engineering leadership role
• Strong hands-on background in Java (Spring/Spring Boot or equivalent) and solid React experience
• Proven experience building or operating payment systems, ideally across both crypto and fiat rails
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, transaction integrity and high-availability architecture
• Experience with databases, message queues and microservices
• iGaming, fintech or crypto/payments experience, PCI-DSS familiarity, and cloud/containerisation exposure (AWS/GCP/Azure, Docker/Kubernetes) all advantageous
