Speech Systems Senior AI Engineer (STT / TTS / VAD)

You are invited to join our client, as they expand AI capabilities to deliver real-time voice experiences in customer engagement. This role sits in Malta and follows a hybrid working model. You will take the role of Speech Systems Senior AI Engineer, building production-grade voice pipelines that combine speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and voice activity detection to enable natural, high-quality conversations at low latency. Responsibilities Design and develop real-time voice AI pipelines that power live conversations Build and optimise low-latency streaming systems using technologies such as LiveKit or similar frameworks Implement and improve Voice Activity Detection (VAD) and conversational turn-taking mechanisms Develop advanced prompting strategies for multi-turn, context-aware AI interactions Integrate LLM-based solutions with voice interfaces for assisted and autonomous experiences Improve system performance through latency optimisation and interruption handling Evaluate and enhance speech recognition and voice synthesis quality Collaborate with product and operations teams to embed AI voice into customer processes Ensure scalability, monitoring, reliability, and fault tolerance across real-time systems Requirements 5+ years of software engineering experience, with exposure to AI, real-time systems, or distributed applications Hands-on experience with voice AI technologies including STT, TTS, and VAD Experience with real-time communication technologies such as LiveKit, WebRTC, or similar frameworks Strong understanding of LLMs and prompt engineering for conversational applications Proficiency in Python Knowledge of streaming architectures and latency optimisation techniques Experience designing, deploying, and maintaining production-grade software systems What we offer Hybrid working model Comprehensive private health insurance On-site parking Mental health and wellbeing support Regular company events and team activities Free meals at the office Employee discounts across fitness, wellness, property services, etc International workplace environment Continuous learning and professional development opportunities
