BettingJobs is working with a fast-growing B2B iGaming technology provider to appoint a Chief Technology Officer. The estate spans game aggregation, player account management, an in-flight applied AI programme, an in-house game studio and the infrastructure and security functions beneath it. The role carries a seat on the Executive Committee, direct access to the CEO, board and shareholder, and the mandate to set a three-year technology strategy across multiple regulated markets.
This suits a technology leader who is equally credible in an architecture review and in front of a commercial board. You will lead a large, distributed engineering organisation across several countries and time zones, make the build, buy and partner calls, own the technology budget and act as technical key function holder where a licence requires one. The biggest judgement call is the applied AI programme — a set of operational agents embedded in the PAM covering fraud, payments, KYC, bonus and reporting — which you inherit mid-flight and must architect, govern and decide how it converges with the incumbent platform.
Responsibilities:
- Own a three-year roadmap the board can fund, translating platform work into revenue, margin and risk language, and own the technology budget and vendor commercials.
- Take accountability for the aggregation layer — single-API distribution of a large multi-studio catalogue, wallet models, bonus and tournament mechanics, jackpots and per-jurisdiction controls — plus the studio onboarding, certification and settlement pipeline.
- Own the casino PAM end to end, including bonus engine, CRM, back office, multi-brand and multi-currency support, responsible gambling controls, payment orchestration across fiat and crypto rails, and the fraud, KYC and AML tooling around them.
- Lead the applied AI agenda: agent architecture, model routing, evaluation harnesses, human-in-the-loop escalation, cost and latency budgets, and governance that survives regulatory scrutiny.
- Build the leadership layer beneath you and set the engineering operating model — team topology, on-call, incident command, architecture review and production standards.
- Provide technical partnership to the game studio, and own cloud, SRE, security engineering and the certification estate.
- Carry the technical side of licensing alongside Legal and Compliance, and maintain readiness across every live jurisdiction.
- In the first six months: verify the architecture, IP and supplier dependencies; deliver a candid technical assessment to the Executive Committee within ninety days; build licensing evidence to Tier-1 standard; and grade each product as production-ready, needing hardening or requiring re-architecture.
Requirements:
- 15+ years in software engineering, with at least eight in iGaming, betting, payments or another high-volume regulated transactional domain — a meaningful share of it supplier-side.
- Proven as CTO, VP Engineering or Director of Engineering with accountability for 50+ engineers across multiple locations.
- Architectural depth in distributed systems: event-driven and microservice design, low-latency transactional processing, wallet and ledger correctness, idempotency and reconciliation.
- Deep knowledge of the iGaming stack — PAM, RGS, aggregation, bonus engines, payment orchestration, CRM and BI — and how it is certified in regulated markets.
- Delivered AI or machine learning in production: monitored, governed and making real decisions, not a pilot.
- Cloud and platform fluency across AWS or GCP, Kubernetes, IaC, CI/CD, observability and cost control at scale.
- Security and compliance literacy: ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR, AML, responsible gambling controls and test-house certification.
- Commercial fluency on pricing, margin, vendor negotiation and capital expenditure cases, with fluent written and spoken English.
- Advantageous: game aggregator experience, a licence application or key function holder role under a Tier-1 regulator, restructure or post-acquisition integration, crypto payment rails, offshore development partners, Portuguese or Spanish.
