Briefly: a fraud analyst catches multi-accounts, stolen cards and bonus abuse before a casino or sportsbook loses money. A middle analyst in Malta or Cyprus earns €3000–4200 a month, a senior €4600–6200, a team head up to €10 000. As of October 15, 2026, the SpinHire catalog lists 53 open jobs with fraud or anti-fraud in the title, 22 of them fully remote.

Friday evening. A €4800 withdrawal is sitting in the queue. The account is nine days old, the deposit came from a card, the win was made on bonus money. Nothing odd, until the analyst opens the links: the same device fingerprint on eleven more accounts, all arriving through one affiliate link, all claiming the welcome bonus, all betting the same pattern. Twenty minutes later the farm is blocked, withdrawals are frozen and the case goes into the report. That is an ordinary working day for the person job ads call a Fraud Analyst, a Risk & Fraud Specialist or simply anti-fraud.

What a casino fraud analyst actually does

Casinos and sportsbooks are a magnet for fraudsters: money moves out fast, bonuses are generous and a player can sign up from anywhere. Anti-fraud stands between that flow and the company's cash desk.

  • Multi-accounts. Link accounts by device, IP, payment details and behaviour. One farm working the welcome bonuses can eat a month's promo budget.
  • Stolen cards. Stop a deposit from someone else's card before the owner files a dispute. Every such case means lost money plus a fine from the card scheme.
  • Bonus abuse. Find players who clear bonuses with low-risk schemes and, together with bonus manager close the loopholes in the terms.
  • Fraud system rules. Set up and tune rules in SEON, Sift and similar platforms: too soft and fraudsters slip through, too strict and honest players get blocked.
  • Evidence for disputes. Pull session logs, game history and documents to fight off a chargeback.

The role's metrics are measured in money: losses prevented, card chargeback rate, false positive rate and case handling speed. Good anti-fraud doesn't just block, it blocks accurately: every honest player stuck in a check walks off to a competitor.

Anti-fraud, AML and KYC: who does what

The three roles often sit in one department, but they solve different problems. KYC specialist checks that a player is who they claim to be. AML officer looks for signs of money laundering and reports to the regulator. Anti-fraud protects the company's own money. Small teams combine the roles: job ads include a Risk, Fraud & Payments Agent at BettingJobs and an Anti-Fraud / Payments Manager at Win Media Tech. The benchmark is the profession card in the SpinHire catalogue. Figures in euros, gross per month, plus an annual bonus of 10–20%, sometimes tied to losses prevented.

What job ads say. Only 4 of the 53 jobs list a figure. Bet365 in the US offers a Fraud and Risk Specialist $55–65k a year. Evolution in Riga pays a fraud detection Data Scientist €4400–6400 a month. The agency ADVIBE offers a casino Risk and Fraud Manager $2000–2500 a month. Other employers discuss money at the interview, so keep the range from the table handy.

How to become a fraud analyst

It is one of the clearest careers to grow into from inside iGaming. There are three working routes.

  1. From KYC and support. The most common way in: you have already seen hundreds of accounts, know the typical schemes and can read documents. Usually the only gap is SQL.
  2. From banking anti-fraud. Transaction monitoring logic is the same; you just need to pick up the gambling specifics: bonuses, bets, affiliate traffic.
  3. From analytics. A data analyst with SQL and Python picks up fraud patterns quickly and grows toward data science and machine learning, where the pay ranges are higher.

What to build up in advance: SQL good enough for exports and table joins, the basics of Visa and Mastercard chargeback rules, fraud platforms (SEON, Sift, Covery) and English at B2 or above. Character matters just as much: anti-fraud gets pressure both from players and from the commercial side, which wants more deposits. You have to be able to defend a decision with facts.

Where you go next

The ladder is short: Fraud Analyst → Senior Fraud Analyst → Fraud Team Lead → Head of Risk & Fraud. From here you can move into payments all the way up to Head of Payments, or into product: Betclic and DraftKings hire product managers for fraud platforms. Demand is steady because fraud schemes change faster than the rules. Neighbouring roles with pay ranges are collected in the section roles and salaries.
