Compliance Analyst (Advocate)

▮ Description

A regulated financial institution based in Malta is growing its compliance function and is looking for a Compliance Analyst to support its legal and regulatory framework. The successful candidate will report directly to the Head of Legal & Compliance.
This is an office-based role offering a salary of up to €35K.
Role & Responsibilities

  • Monitor, interpret, and apply Maltese and EU banking regulations, including the Banking Act and MFSA regulatory framework
  • Provide legal and regulatory input to senior management to support informed decision-making
  • Contribute to the development, enhancement, and maintenance of internal governance frameworks, policies, and control procedures
  • Design and maintain structured compliance monitoring activities covering regulatory and AML/CFT obligations
  • Conduct risk assessments, control reviews, gap analyses, and thematic compliance testing
  • Ensure regulatory reporting and submissions are completed accurately and within required deadlines
  • Act as the day-to-day liaison with the MFSA, including inspections, supervisory correspondence, and regulatory queries
  • Support the preparation of regulatory responses, formal submissions, and remediation tracking
  • Collaborate with internal teams including Risk, Legal, Audit, and Operations to strengthen compliance integration across the business
  • Deliver training and awareness initiatives on regulatory and compliance matters

Education, Skills & Requirements

  • Warranted Advocate in Malta (non-negotiable)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in banking or financial services
  • Strong understanding of Maltese and EU regulatory frameworks, including AML/CFT and conduct requirements (non-negotiable)
  • Fluency in English at C2/Native level, both written and spoken
  • Excellent drafting, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while engaging effectively with regulators and internal stakeholders
  • High level of integrity, attention to detail, and structured thinking
  • Professional certifications such as ICA or ACAMS are a plus
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to manage multiple regulatory priorities
