Where you Fit In:
As a Team Lead, you report to the Engineering Manager and operate within a cross-functional squad alongside a Product Owner, Lead Engineer, QA, NOC, Performance and IT Operations. You partner closely with the Product Owner on execution, and with the Engineering Manager and Lead Engineer to ensure the team is set up for long-term success.
Who are You?
As a Team Manager, you enable team effectiveness and sustainable delivery from the engineering management side. You ensure engineering capacity, risks, quality practices, and cross-team dependencies are managed effectively and collaborate with Product Owners to ensure sprint/iteration execution and backlog outcomes. You partner closely with the Engineering Manager and Lead Engineer to maintain delivery health, team cohesion, and operational readiness.
The impact you will have:
Engineering delivery support (with PO owning sprint execution)
Partner with the Product Owner to ensure engineering work is well-shaped: feasibility, dependencies, sequencing risks, and acceptance criteria quality.
Support predictable delivery by managing engineering-side coordination: WIP discipline, capacity alignment, and escalation of blockers.
Maintain a clear view of delivery health (cycle time, defect trends, operational load, reliability signals) and drive corrective actions with EM/Lead.
People leadership & team health (within EM’s org)
Run regular 1:1s focused on engagement, feedback, and growth; coordinate with the Engineering Manager on performance topics and development plans.
Improve onboarding, mentoring structure, knowledge sharing, and team rituals that increase cohesion and execution quality.
Contribute to hiring -interview participation, role calibration, onboarding plans.
Cross-functional coordination
Act as the engineering-side coordination point across Product Owner, QA, NOC, Performance, Architects/Principals, and other engineering teams.
Manage cross-team dependencies, integration readiness, and communication cadence, ensuring no surprises at release time.
Release management cooperation with IT Operations
Work closely with IT Operations on release execution and change management process: environment constraints, change windows, approvals, access needs, and rollback/validation protocols.
Ensure release readiness practices are consistent: checklists, go/no-go criteria, comms plans, and post-release verification.
Operational excellence & incident follow-ups
Partner with IT Operations and the Lead Engineer to reduce operational toil (automation, process simplification, better tooling).
Coordinate with the incident team to ensure follow-ups happen -ownership assignment, tracking to completion, and recurring-issue elimination.
Ensure runbooks, operational docs, service READMEs, and service ownership practices are maintained and discoverable.
What we’re looking for:
3+ years in engineering leadership / team coordination roles (Team Lead, Delivery Lead, Engineering Team Coordinator, or similar).
Demonstrated success working in cross-functional product teams where Product/Delivery owns planning cadence.
Strong stakeholder management with Product Owners and engineering counterparts.
Good technical fluency (enough to challenge assumptions, understand risk, and drive quality/operational practices), ideally with exposure to Java/service delivery environments.
Strong facilitation, conflict management, and escalation judgement.
Metrics literacy: can interpret delivery, quality, and operational indicators and drive improvements.
Prior hands-on development background (Java/services) or deep SDLC governance experience.
On-call / incident management exposure.
Experience in environments with strict release controls or regulatory constraints.
Sportingtech is an equal opportunity employer. We value diversity and are committed to providing a work environment of mutual respect to everyone without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, age, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by applicable laws, regulations and ordinances.
